About
Hurled words. Thrown objects. Dodged Burgers.
After someone threw a burger at them and shouted a transphobic slur, performance artist Travis Alabanza became obsessed with burgers. How they’re made, how they feel, and smell. How they travel through the air. How the mayonnaise feels on your skin. BURGERZ is the climax of their obsession – exploring how trans bodies survive and how, by them reclaiming an act of violence, we can address our own complicity.
Carving out a place for themselves as one of the UK’s prominent trans voices, Alabanza presents a performance that is timely, unsettling and powerful.
SPOTLIGHT TALK – 19 NOV
During our BURGERZ Spotlight Talk host Riyaz van Wegberg (Spectrum Podcast) will talk to performer Travis Alabanza, award winning theatre director Gavin-Viano Fabri and teacher and activist Marnix Ebbelaar. They will discuss the importance of queer and trans art and artists, theatre practices in both the UK and The Netherlands, and how, as a society, we can make sure everyone has a place in it.
SHARING PRACTICE: Trans Art – 21 NOV 17:00-18:30
Meet&Talk with Travis Alabanza about art and gender on Sunday before the performance. How do you make gender diversity more accessible and visible through art? For all trans and queer artists, performers and programmers who want to connect. 10 spots available. Read more here.
