I, Malvolio

By Tim Crouch

A story of lost dignity, prudery, practical jokes and bullying, I, Malvolio re-imagines Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night from the point of view of its most notoriously abused steward.

This one-man act of storytelling alchemy draws us deep into the madness of Shakespeare’s classic comedy.

It is a charged and often unsettling rant from a man “notoriously wronged”, a man adrift in front of cruel spectators. Part abject clown, part theatre-hating disciplinarian, Malvolio asks his audience to explore the pleasure we take in other people’s suffering.

I, Malvolio has toured the world since it opened in 2010 – from Shanghai to Sydney, from Moscow to Mumbai.  This is a rare chance to see a performance by one of the UK’s most original theatre makers.

Reviews

The Guardian Australia Cultureblog
“The performance we are watching is crude, crass, and a downright joyous celebration of theatre. Here, Crouch is a performer at the top of his game, sharing a text that plays as much with intelligence as slapstick.”

Total Theatre
“Pure Magic”

The Daily Telegraph
“Fresh, funny, poignant and thought-provoking I, Malvolio is Tim Crouch’s finest work to-date.”
