Who wouldn’t know the two international storyteller friends of Amsterdam: Raphael and Sahand? Between the two of them they have won several awards. They are great friends despite of the fact that they come from countries which are …not quite friends (Israel and Iran). Sahand is our workshop leader this time. He will conduct a workshop teaching the basics of storytelling. This is also an opportunity to talk about himself and why he became what he is. Because, you see, storytelling is it best when you have a strong connection to your chosen topic – when you tell from the heart. This professional will teach you how to create a capturing story with engaging characters, based on YOUR OWN LIFE. He will show you how to find YOUR OWN WORDS and how to TELL YOUR STORY. Sounds like a lot to cram into three hours? You can do it!
About the workshop leaders
Sahand Sahebdivani (Iranian-Dutch)
Sahand was born in Iran and raised in the Netherlands where he studied storytelling, screenplay writing and music. Since 2004 he operates the Mezrab Cultural Centre, a renowned centre for storytelling and other arts. He has worked both in Dutch and Persian language media as a writer and programme maker on a variety of cultural, social and political issues. When he’s not in Amsterdam he’s touring the world with his band, his story shows and/or his storytelling workshops.
Since 2018, together with Raphael, he has worked as the Artistic Director of the Amsterdam Storytelling Festival. The vision of the festival is to link the ancient art of storytelling with today’s most current burning questions.
Sahand will be your workshop leader on this date.
Raphael Rodan (Israeli)
Raphael Rodan is an award-winning theatre maker and storyteller. His training as an artist spans over 10 years. Apart from writing and performing, Raphael also teaches storytelling. In 2014, together with Farnoosh Farnia and Sahand Sahebdivani, he created The Mezrab Storytelling School. It is without doubt one of Europe’s most dominant storytelling schools, which works with both ancient and personal stories and examines the connection between them. The school uses unique and original techniques developed by its team. As well as that he teaches regularly in the ATD, Amsterdam’s theatre school.
Raphael will not be present at this time. Both storytellers can be booked for another date.

STET Education
This workshop is part of the STET Education programming. Since 2013 STET Education offers workshops and performances at schools or in the theatre, and since 2016 we also have open workshops for individuals led by international performers. We highly value the direct contact with teachers, students and audience members. Our successful education department is in touch with over 300 international and Dutch schools nationwide. Yearly over 2000 students at primary and secondary level are involved in STET Education programmes. Theatre education has proved to be a unique way of learning, gaining insights in drama techniques, storytelling, communication and most importantly learning about oneself.
