INFORMATION
Yes, when does a tradition start .... ? Back by popular demand and to our
great
pleasure,
Ashley Ramsden returns for the third time from
Great Britain to perform
the famous story
A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.
The performance takes place
in Theatre Concordia,
built
in the aftermath of Dickens’ live. Ramsden feels very much
at home in these historical
surroundings.
He performs the story single handed and it
shows his
formidable talents as a
story-teller and actor. The program embraces the
original masterpiece, transporting audiences
back to Victorian England and
conjuring
up the sinister back alleys, cobblestone streets, and
ghostly
apparitions that are the
story’s hallmarks. In the past two years the
audience,
Dutch and non-Dutch
alike,
listened mesmerized to the story
that is still relevant today in a
world where there is
a gulf in
the distribution
of wealth, influence and knowledge.

Before the show the audience is invited to the 17th century almshouse
The Hofje van Wouw dressed in Christmas attire,
to have a glass of mulled wine, coffee or
tea
(entrance Brouwersgracht 30). Information and special Hof-made presents and produce are
for sale.
Proceeds
go to the Hofje van Wouw Charity. To see the performance one crosses over the Hoge Zand to go to
Theatre Concordia.
This production is supported by the Municipality of The Hague.
Some comments from the 2007 audience members:
“The best Dickens’ version I’ve ever experienced””
“Inspiring”
“Marvelous performance”
“Wat een heerlijke voorstelling””
“Ashley is wonderful”
